David Tennant

David Tennant has heaped praise on his young What We Did On Our Holiday co-stars calling them 'fantastic'.

Tennant plays the father of Bobby Smalldridge, Emilia Jones and Harriet Turnbal in the movie, as he works with the trio of youngsters for the first time.

And the actor enjoyed working with them, insisting that they are the stars of the film.

Speaking to the Press Association, the actor said: "They were so much better than us, they're the stars of the film.

"We know from Guy and Andy's work on Outnumbered that their great talent is just allowing kids to be and be free and to act like kids act, which you never get to see in TV and film.

"You never get to really see kids being kids, and you get that in this film. They taught us everything really, they were fantastic."

What We Did On Our Holiday sees Tennant team up with directors Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, while Rosamund Pike, Billy Connolly, Ben Miller and Celia Imrie are also on board.

Tennant has mixed his film work with TV roles this year with Postman Pat: The Movie and Gracepoint.

He is currently filming the second season of Broadchurch, where he will reprise the role of Alec Hardy.

What We Did On Our Holiday is out now.
