Doctor Strange is one of the most anticipated films of 2016 and the official cast list for the movie has been confirmed by Marvel.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange will be the second Phase 3 film and the first of the new franchises that we will see over the next few years.

While there have been plenty of casting rumours swirling around in recent months, Marvel have not been quick about revealing just who is one the cast list. We have already seen Benedict Cumberbatch and Chiwetel Ejiofor on set as Doctor Strange and Baron Mordo and now we have learnt who will be with them.

Marvel have confirmed that Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Tilda Swinton are all also set to star - no real surprises. However, Marvel did not confirm their roles in the film.

McAdams is rumoured to be playing Night Nurse, Michael Stuhlbarg may be playing Nicodemus West, and Mikkelsen potentially could be villain Dormammu. I guess we are going to have to wait and see if all this turns out to be true.

As well as confirming a very exciting cast list, Marvel has also released a very brief synopsis for the upcoming film:

"Doctor Strange follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

"Doctor Strange is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3's goal - over the course of four years and nine film - is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favourites."

Doctor Strange will be the second of two Marvel films hitting the big screen next year and will come after the release of Captain America: Civil War. We still don't know if Doctor Strange will be making an appearance in Avengers: Infinity War.

Doctor Strange is released 28th October 2017.
