Edgar Ramirez

Edgar Ramirez is the latest name to be linked to the role of Doctor Strange, and is believed to be in talks for the role.

Doctor Strange is set to be one of Marvel's new franchises over the next few years, and will be directed by Scott Derrickson.

Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jared Leto are some of the other names being batted around, but Ramirez is now in the mix.

Speaking to IGN.com, the actor said: "We're talking. We've been talking."

Official cast details for the movie haven't been announced and the parts of Doctor Stephen Strange and his nemesis Baron Mordo are yet to be filled, although the 37-year-old failed to specify which role he is in contention for.

Meanwhile, 'Prometheus' screenwriter John Spaihts has entered in to talks to pen the script which follows the neurosurgeon - who becomes a Sorcerer Supreme - as he tries to protect the earth from magical and mystical threats.

The first draft of the 'Doctor Strange' script has already been penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer and the film makers have called in Avenger's director and Marvel Studio's president Kevin Feige to produce the movie.

Ramirez will be back on the big screen this summer with Deliver Us From Evil, and has also completed work on Hand of Stone.

Earlier this month it was announced that Ramirez will take over the role of Bodhi in Point Break.
