Frank Marshall has revealed that it was a challenge finding the story that would entice Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass back to the Bourne franchise.

Marshall is set to serve as producer on the first Bourne movie to feature Damon and Greengrass since The Bourne Ultimatum back in 2007, and he says it has taken time to find a story that everyone responded to.

Speaking to NerdReport.com, the Marshall said: "It was really the challenge of finding the story. If you look back five or six years ago, when we were maybe going on, we just didn't have a story.

"It's taken this long for us to come up with a story that everybody responded to. Now, we're moving forward."

This will be the first Bourne film since The Bourne Legacy and will see both Damon and Jeremy Renner move forward with different movies in the franchise.

However, Marshall says that there is currently no plans to bring Damon & Renner and the characters of Bourne & Aaron Cross together in the same movie.

Marshall continued: "We don't have plans for that. You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks."

The fifth Bourne movie is set to hit the big screen in summer 2016.
