Gareth Edwards says he wanted the return of Godzilla to be 'epic'.

Edwards returns to the director's chair next summer as he helms the reboot of Godzilla; the first time we have seen the monster on the big screen since 1998.

Speaking to USA Today the director said: "To me, he’s like a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we’ve behaved.

"If this really happened, it would be like Sept. 11. I want it to be epic. I want to get the hairs on the back of your neck up."

Edwards made his directorial debut in 2010 with Monsters, and Godzilla is his first film since the success of his independent debut.

Edwards has brought together a great cast for Godzilla as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen are all set to star.

Godzilla is released 16th may 2014.
