J.K. Simmons is set to take over the role of Gordon in Justice League - Part 1 from Gary Oldman - who played the role in Christopher Nolan's trilogy of Batman movies.

Speaking about the role and the character to Yahoo! Movies, Oldman said: "The thing you've just got to get used to with Gordon is he's a really sound detective, first of all.

"And he's really incorruptible, which is a kind of wonderful quality to play and sort of, like, true blue. He's like a Watson, oddly. He's sort of like Watson to Sherlock, is Gordon to Batman."

The Justice League - Part 1 is about to begin filming and will see Simmons star alongside Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, who will take on the roles of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

The movie will also see Zack Snyder return to the director's chair for his third D.C Comic film.

As for Oldman, he is set to return to the big screen later this month with new film Criminal, which sees him star alongside Kevin Costner, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds.

The actor has also completed work on The Space Between Us, which is the latest film offering from director Peter Chelsom.

Britt Robertson, Carla Gugino, and Asa Butterfield will join Oldman on an exciting cast list.

The Justice League - Part 1 is released in 2017.
