Guillermo del Toro

Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he is working on the script for Pacific Rim 2, but insists that it would not be a prequel.

The director has teamed up with Zak Penn to work on the screenplay, and he admits that the second film will be 'very different' from the first.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, the director said: "I'm working very, very hard with Zak Penn,. We've been working for a few months now in secret. We found a way to twist it around.

"Some people were wondering if we were going to do the prequel. I was never interested in doing that first wave of invasion.

"I'm going for very new, very crazy ideas on the second one, which are very different from the first one - but you will get really great spectacle."

Del Toro is expected to be returning to the director's chair for the film. However, not members of the cast have officially been announced for the film yet.

Pacific Rim was the last time that we saw del Toro in the director's chair, but he is set to return with Crimson Peak.

Filming on Crimson Peak has been completed and will be released next year. The film sees del Toro reunite with Charlie Hunnam, while Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain are also on board.

Crimson Peak is released 16th October 2015.
