The actor appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and while he wouldn't give anything away, he heaped praise on the director and the new cast.

He said: "Why would you want to say anything [about it]? I want the audience to experience it. I don't want them to hear about it.

"I can tell you this - it's really, really good. Trust me, it's really good. The new cast... Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac are phenomenal. JJ has made an incredible movie. You will not be disappointed at all. I promise you."

The Force Awakens sees Ford team up with Abrams for the first time as he reunites with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher; who are reprising their roles as Luke Skywalker and Leia.

The movie is one of the most anticipated of 2015 and is set to be one of the biggest at the box office.

It will be the first time that we have see Ford return to the role of Han Solo since Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi back in 1983.

Han Solo may not be the only iconic character Ford will be returning to as Indiana Jones and Blade Runner projects are currently in the pipeline.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released 17th December.
