Interstellar

Interstellar has made it two weeks at the top of the UK box office, holding off the challenge from the newly released The Imitation Game.

Interstellar has received critical acclaim around the world as Christopher Nolan has returned to the director’s chair. The movie took a further £3.7 million to comfortably hold off The Imitation Game, which has also been receiving rave reviews.

The movie sees Benedict cumber batch take on the central role of Alan Turing, who was a major force behind cracking the Enigma Code during the Second World War. Cumberbatch is already being tipped as a Best Actor Oscar contender for his performance, which is set to send his star rocketing even further.

The movie took £2.7 million in its opening weekend, but was unable to topple Interstellar from the number one spot and had to settle for second. Nativity 2: Dude, Where’s My Donkey? Sees Catherine Tate join forces with Martin Clunes for this festive treat, which was new at three.

Mr Turner - another highly acclaimed movies in recent weeks - fell two places to four, while The Drop rounded off the top five. The Drop marks the return of Tom Hardy to the big screen but it is also the last movie that we will see James Gandolfini appear in after his sudden death last year.

Gone Girl was down two places at six, while animation film The Book of Life was down just one spot this week from six to seven.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was this week’s biggest faller as it dropped five places from three to eight. Fury also took a tumble over the weekend, as thee World War II movie was down four places at nine.

Horror movie Ouija rounded off the top ten this week, as it dropped seven spots from last week’s number seven.
