Jake Gyllenhaal believes that his new movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will please original fans of the popular computer game.

Gyllenhaal takes on the central role of Prince Dastan in the Mike Newell directed and Jerry Bruckheimer produced movie.

In an interview with Comingsoon.net the actor said: "I've no doubt there will be a whole mix of ideas about the movie because everybody plays the game.

"The great thing about video games is you get to do it yourself, and this is another person's version of it.

"I think we've done incredible action, we've really paid attention to the video game and elaborated on things that make this story fantastic.

"I mean, huge action, a lot of the same moves you use and can use in the video game but also based in reality and believably done in the film which I think creates more suspense. I think they're really going to like it."

The movie, which also stars Gemma Arterton, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell, follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is released 28th May.
