James Wan

James Wan is the director being tipped to take over the director's chair of the Fast & Furious franchise.

It was revealed last week that Justin Lin would not be returning for the seventh film - which is due to start filming this summer - and the search has been on to find his replacement.

Deadline has revealed that Wan was in talks to take over and believe that a deal could be made this week.

And Lin has voiced his support for Wan as he released a statement saying: "I’m extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure."

"It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and [producer Neal H. Morris] have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter."

Lin has directed Fast & Furious 6 - which is released later this spring.

Wan is best known for his work in the horror genre being behind movies such as Saw and Insidious and we are set to see his latest film The Conjuring hit the big screen later this year.

Fast & Furious 6 is released 17th May.
