Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are believed to be the favourites for the role of Ant-Man.

Ant-Man is set to kick off Phase Three of Marvel movies and will be hitting the big screen in 2015.

Edgar Wright is in the director's chair for the film and, according to Variety, has met with both Gordon-Levitt and Rudd to discuss the central role of Dr. Hank Pym.

Ant-Man will be the first time that Wright has directed a big budget blockbuster, and he has also penned the screenplay along with Joe Cornish.

Gordon-Levitt is no stranger to the superhero film having appeared in The Dark Knight Rising back in 2012.

Pym would be the biggest role of Rudd's acting career so far, having made a name for himself in comedy movies such as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

Ant Man will be the first Marvel movie to hit the big screen after Phase Two is brought to a close with The Avengers: Age of Ultron in the summer of 2015.

Filming is expected to get underway on the movie next year. Ant Man is set to be released on July 31 2015.
