Judi Dench says Steve Coogan made he laugh ever day when filming Philomena.

The actress is set to take on the real life character of Philomena Lee in a movie that follows has as she searches for the child she gave up for adoption.

Philomena sees her work with Coogan for the first time: he has penned the screenplay as well as starring in the film.

Speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper the actress said: "Steve made me laugh every single day. He's an idiot. What better relationship can you have?

"Especially when you're doing something quite serious. He just made me cry laughing."

The movie is based on the book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee and sees Stephen Frears return to the director's chair.

Philomena has been lighting up the festival circuit in recent weeks, and Dench has already been tipped as a major Oscar contender for her central performance.

Philomena will be screened at the BFI London Film Festival next week, and is set to be one of the British films not to miss.

Philomena is released 1st November.
