Julia Roberts says she hates being put on a pedestal and thinks of herself as no different to the average person

Despite winning an Oscar and being heralded as America's sweetheart, the 45-year-old actress admits she doesn't enjoy being treated like a star seeing herself as nothing more than an average person.

She said: "People should understand that there is nothing tremendously unique about me. I have this tremendously unique job, but we are looking for the same thing, which is to be understood, honoured and loved. I hate the pedestal feeling, the fake heralding."

Once known for starring in numerous movies a year and constantly in the forefront of Hollywood, the 'Erin Brockovich' star has moved away from the spotlight since starting a family - including eight-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and six-year-old son Henry - with husband Danny Moder, and she reveals that she no longer recognises her old self.

Julia often flew between the Oklahoma set of her new movie 'August: Osage County' and her New Mexico home while filming and struggled to keep up.

She explained: "I felt untethered, I was lost. I was walking into walls. I couldn't sleep. I missed my family. I realised I'm not that person anymore - that person who used to travel the world by herself."

Nowadays, the 'My Best Friend's Wedding' actress prefers to be at home with her children and loves her daily routine with her brood.

She added to the Mail's You magazine: "Danny and I do not work at the same time, so I'm able to be really devoted to my home life, then when a job comes up that really attracts my attention, I commit to that."
