It has been revealed that Julia Robert will receive the Spotlight Award at the Palm Spring's International Film Festival.

Roberts will be returning to the big screen in August: Osage County, and it is for this film and performance that she is being honoured.

August: Osage Country is a big screen adaptation of the play by Tracy Letts and is being tipped a major Oscar contender; could Roberts be in the running for another Academy Award?

Festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement: "Julia Roberts is a consummate actress with a range as vast as her talent. Her ability to consistently give standout performances over the past 25 years is remarkable."

August: Osage Country has one of the most impressive ensemble casts as Roberts is joined by Meryl Streep, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Sam Shepard and Chris Cooper.

It was previously announced that '12 Years a Slave' director Steve McQueen will be honoured at the ceremony with the Director of the Year prize.

Meanwhile, 'Gravity' star Sandra Bullock will take home the Best Actress award, and Matthew McConaughey will also be honoured for his role in 'Dallas Buyers Club'.
