While another Mad Max movie looks on the cards, director George Miller admits that it will probably not be his next film project.

Miller returned to the Mad Max franchise last year with Fury Road; the first film since Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome back in 1985. The movie went on to be a critical and commercial success and is now picking up award nominations left, right, and centre.

It has already been announced that a sequel is in the pipeline that would see actor Tom Hardy return to the central role. However, it looks like Miller wants to tackle another film project first.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly is he knew what he wanted to do with the Mad Max sequel, Miller said: "Yes, I have. And certainly having conversations about it. But I'm not sure if it's the very next movie I want to do.

"I've got something a bit smaller before we go back out into the wasteland - something that's contemporary that we can get through fairly quickly. And something with not too much technical difficulty. Something more performance-based and so on, just to clear the exhaust."

Mad Max: Fury Road was one of the most acclaimed movies of 2015 and went on to gross over $375 million at the global box office by the end of its theatrical run.

The movie has already been named 'Best Film' by the National Board of Review and will compete for the Best Film/Drama Golden Globe this weekend. If it picks up a Best Picture Oscar nomination remains to be seen.

The movie saw Hardy team up with Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult for the first time but it has been suggested that Theron may not return for the already highly anticipated sequel.

The movie has been tentatively titled Mad Max: Wasteland but there is no word on when this movie may hit the big screen.
