Yungblud is an award-winning British artist, who is signed to Locomotion Recordings and Interscope Records, has topped the UK album charts with songs such as weird!, performed in from of sold-out crowds in more than 20 countries and has over 1.84 billion streams.

His is well known for speaking out on issues that directly affect his generation, such as gender politics, mental health, sexuality and identity; Mars will be his debut in the world of film production.

The forthcoming project is inspired by the artist’s song Mars, which is based off the tale of a young fan which Yungblud met on tour. The scripted short will be set in the north of England, and follows Charlie Acaster for a day.

The only thing that Charlie has ever wished for, is a normal teenage experience; at least, that’s what she thinks she wants...

However, one extraordinary night will cause her to take a step back and really take note of what really matters to her.

“This story is an uncensored, unfiltered portrayal of youth,” says Yungblud, “It revels in the fragile beauty of it, flirts with the pain of it and most importantly the undeniable, glimmering hope of it.

“It presents a generational shift,” continues the artist, “towards acceptance of one’s self and others, and ever-growing confidence in our own insecurities.”

The singer, songwriter and actor has collaborated with the acclaimed playwright, Chris Bush (Standing at the Sky's Edge, Faustus: That Damned Woman) who has written the screenplay for Mars

Bush has said that “Mars is a story where the mundane and the magical sit side by side. It’s Space Age escapism shot through with Nothern grit.

“More than anything,” Bush continues, “I hope it’s honest. I’m hugely proud to be working with Yungblud, and the fantastic creative team we’ve assembles. The queer kids are alright.”

Mars will hopefully release in the spring of next year (2022).
