Michael Keaton doesn't understand the negative backlash surrounding the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman.

Keaton took on the role of Batman for the first time back in 1989, in the Tim Burton directed film. He went on to reprise the role in Batman Returns.

It was announced last year that Affleck will take over the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman vs Superman. However, Batman fans called for Affleck to be removed from the role.

Keaton believes that Affleck will do a fine job in the role. Speaking to Today, the actor said: "He's going to be great.

"I don't follow it much, but I guess there was some sort of... I don't know why people get excited about things. Frankly, I don't understand it."

Batman vs Superman is the sequel to Man of Steel, and will see Affleck star alongside Henry Cavill as Superman.

Zack Snyder will be in the director's chair, while Gal Gadot is on board as Wonder Woman, while Jesse Eisenberg will star as Lex Luthor.

Batman vs Superman is released 6th May 2016.
