Minions

The Minions have always been one of the most popular elements of the Despicable Me franchise but this is the first solo outing for these characters.

The movie took a further £6.2 million over its second weekend on release to comfortably hold the top spot and hold off the challenge from the latest Terminator film.

Terminator: Genisys is the fifth film in the franchise and sees Alan Taylor take over the director's chair for the first time. The movie struggled at the U.S. box office this weekend but took over £3.7 million here in the UK.

However, it was not enough to take the top spot from Minions and Arnie and co had to settle for second as this week's highest new entry.

Jurassic World slipped just a single place this week as it continues to perform well at the UK box office - it took a further £2.6 million over the weekend.

Magic Mike XXL could only manage fourth at the end of its first weekend on release. Documentary Amy - which explores the life and career of Amy Winehouse - was also new at five.

Spy slipped out of the top five for the first time as the action comedy slipped three places from three to six. The Empire Strikes Back was also down this week as it dropped from five to number seven.

Guillaume Tell: Royal Opera House was new at eight, while Mr Holmes was the biggest faller on the chart this week. Despite boasting a terrific central performance from Ian McKellen, the movie slipped from four to this week's number nine.

Knock Knock rounded off the top 10 as it dropped three places from last week's number seven.
