Spencer has joined 'Empire' actress Taraji P. Henson in the big screen adaptation of Margot Lee Shetterly's book 'Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race', according to Variety.

Octavia's character has not yet been revealed but the movie will tell the story of three female African-American mathematicians -- Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan -- who were part of John Glenn's Friendship 7 space mission.

Taraji will play Johnson, while Octavia is reportedly set to play one of the other members of the trio.

Meanwhile, Octavia is set to reprise her role as Johanna, an Amity leader who helps the rebels, in 'The Divergent Series: Allegiant'.

Speaking previously about being cast in the franchise, she said: "I am a huge fangirl of the books so I was there opening weekend for 'Divergent' and then I had a friend come into town and went two days later to take her daughter. I love the fact we get to suspend our belief and become part of the Faction system and that I get to head up one of those factions it was really cool and the fact that we get to see some incredible visual effects and some great stunts by all of these actors and especially Shailene Woodley, it's exciting."
