Ernest Cline’s novel Ready Player One has been a huge success since its release, and this March, the story will be coming to the big screen from director Steven Spielberg, who describes the book as the “most amazing flash-forward and flashback at the same time.” Now, in a brilliant new video ahead of the film’s release, fans are able to find out a little bit more about those who have worked on the movie, as well as the story that will be told. Set in 2045, the film sees youngsters like Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) spend their entire lives in a virtual world created by the eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). Following the death of the founder, an immense hunt is on for a digital Easter Egg he’s left in his absence. The person able to put together all of the clues that he’s left behind for them will not only be able to find the Easter Egg, but will be given Halliday’s incredible fortune.
Watts is just one of many who decides to join the contest, and though he’s against some huge odds, he’s quickly hurled into a treasure hunt like none other, with danger lurking around every corner. After all, with so much on the line, people are willing to do anything to become champions.
Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn and T.J. Miller also star in the film, alongside Simon Pegg and a number of other huge talents. Spielberg directs from a screenplay by Cline and Zak Penn, whilst Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger, Spielberg and Dan Farah all serve as producers.
Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris DeFaria and Bruce Berman all serve as executive producers on the movie.
With such an incredible adventure available on the pages of Cline’s novel, Ready Player One could be one of the most exciting movies of the year. We hope it does well when it finally comes time for release.
