Resident Evil has been an iconic gaming franchise since 1996, when the first game released. Since then, 26 additional games have been released, including spinoffs and remakes. The popularity of these games sparked a movie franchise that still has left some fans on the fence.

The first movie in the franchise, titled Resident Evil from 2002, cast Milla Jovovich in the role of Alice, a character not too present in the games. Despite some fans liking Alice’s 6-film story, some fans criticised it for being nothing like the games...

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City could change the minds of those that believe video game films to be a dying breed. Yesterday (October 7th, 2021), Sony Pictures released the trailer, as well as the poster, for the reboot of the Resident Evil movie franchise.

With a whole new cast, and updated visuals, the movie is already set to make an impact; the first few seconds of the trailer alone have us excited to see how Raccoon City has changed, and what the story will be this time.

Audiences will return to the origins of the intensely popular Resident Evil franchise this December (2021); fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts gives the games a new lease of life for a new generation of fans.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City shows the city itself; the once dense and flourishing home of pharmaceutical corporation Umbrella, Raccoon City is now a decaying, shell of its former self.

The company’s exodus has left the town a desolate, eerie wasteland; but evil lies in wait just below the surface. When this deadly evil is inevitably released, a group of survivors must band together to find out what Umbrella is hiding; if they make it through the night, that is.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City stars Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker and Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy, with Donal Logue and Neal McDonough.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City appears to have created some incredible monsters for the team to face, with seemingly new beasts to test the characters, as well as recognisable foes such as the infected and, of course, the Lickers – which look outstanding.

Resident Evil is a franchise that means a lot to so many fans, so rebooting the films is exciting news for fans of both the games and horror movies in general. The trailer has an urgent yet eerie feel to it, and the dreary setting of Raccoon City appears to be a perfect disaster – just the way it should be.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will be in cinemas December 3rd, 2021.
