It was back in 2013 when we last saw Downey Jr suit for a solo Iron Man film, the third movie being the most successful and grossing over $1 billion. In fact, it is the only solo Marvel film to break the $1 billion barrier - could we see Captain America: Civil War follow in its footsteps in the next couple of weeks?

However, the actor has remained a central part of the Marvel Universe with Avengers: Age of Ultron and now Captain America: Civil War under his belt. But will we see another solo Iron Man film?

While there's no solo film currently on the schedule between now and 2019, the actor has given a little bit of hope to fans.

Speaking in a behind the scenes feature for ABC News, the actor briefly talked about his Iron Man future, saying: "I feel like I could do one more."

I have to say, I have my fingers tightly crossed that we will see a fourth solo film for this character as Downey Jr is just so wonderful in the role.

Downey Jr steps into the Captain America franchise for the first time this week as Civil War finally hits the big screen. The movie is based on the much-loved comic book story arc and will see Captain America and Iron Man go head to head.

The movie sees the actor reunite with Chris Evans while Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan are some of the other familiar faces on the cast list.

Civil War is set to introduce us to Tom Holland as Spider-Man and a solo film is set to hit the big screen next year. There are a lot of rumblings that we may see Downey Jr in that movies. I guess we are going to have to wait and see.

There is also the little job of filming Avengers: Infinity Wars Part 1 and Part 2, which is expected to get underway later this year with Anthony and Joe Russo in the director's chair.

Captain America: Civil War is released in the UK tomorrow.
