Russell Crowe is keen to star in a 'Man of Steel' prequel.

The 49-year-old actor - who plays Superman's biological father Jor-El in the current motion picture - revealed on Twitter he would be prepared to "give the tights another ago" if Legendary Pictures were to make another version of the superhero movie.

He wrote: "A lot of you are asking about a KRYPTON prequel, if that's something you feel strongly about let @Legendary pictures know your thoughts (sic)"

And in response to a fan questioning whether he was "shamefully" trying to get such a project up and running, he responded: "Just getting sick of reading the same question mate, however, if it came up, I'd give the tights another go (sic)"

Recent reports have suggested pre-production on a 'Man of Steel' sequel is due to start later this year and the movie is set to begin filming next year.

Mark Strong was recently said to be director Zack Snyder's favourite choice for the iconic role of Lex Luthor - the superhero's most feared rival, who takes advantage of his weakness to Kryptonite - in the forthcoming film.

The character was previously played by Kevin Spacey in 2006's 'Superman Returns'.
