Russell Crowe

Russell Crowe has landed a role in new drama Fathers and Daughters.

The movie will see the Crowe team up with director Gabriele Muccino for the very first time as he takes on the role of a novelist struggling with mental illness.

He finds it difficult to raise his five year old daughter, which has an impact on her in later life. This character will look on the life that she had with her father when she was a child.

Muccino has called Fathers and Daughters a character driven piece and believes that Crowe will be perfect for the role.

She said: "This is a performance-driven movie, and therefore I couldn't ask for a better actor than Russell to deliver this intensely emotional drama.

"It's edgy, heart-wrenching, and uplifting at the same time. To me, it feels like a classic American movie that recalls the great character dramas of the '70s."

Crowe may be on the cast list but who will play the role of his daughter is yet to be revealed.

It has been a very successful year for Crowe with movies such as Les Miserables and Man of Steel under his belt.

We will be back on the big screen in the new year with Noah and Winter's Tale: the former will see him work with director Darren Aronofsky.
