Shazam! graced screens in 2019, and impressed DC fans with its fun, comical plot and great cast. Zachary Levi starred in the titular role, and will be reprising this role again when the sequel hits cinemas.

The first movie followed Billy (Asher Angel), a boy who struggles to fit in. When he arrives at his new foster home, he still doesn’t feel as though he belongs.

While on a train, Billy somehow ends up in the company of Shazam, an old wizard who’s looking to pass on his powers; Billy now finds himself with the very same abilities, and begins to enjoy life a little bit more.

The end of Shazam! saw the hero defeat Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong), who had adopted some very dark powers. It is rumoured that, while we might not know a lot about the upcoming movie’s plot, the sequel will follow where its predecessor left off.

Rumour has it that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is set to follow the titular hero and his similarly super powered foster family as they protect the world from any threats they can.

The family may very well be facing up against Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), the latter being a voodoo priestess who, in the comics, utilises potions from time to time.

After being witness to quite a few behind the scenes glimpses at the production for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the project is finally complete. The photo from Sandberg’s Instagram (see below) shows a completely wrecked room; could Shazam and his family have caused this, or our new villains?

While most details on the narrative are still unclear, the photo gives fans an idea of what kind of movie the sequel will be; the 2019 film saw some decent destruction along with some genuinely funny humour, but this photo suggests that more damage will be caused.

The sequel has some big shoes to fill, as Shazam! did really well to entertain and enthral audiences; the humour balanced with some serious topics and moments made it a very strong movie.

With all the projects DC has planned in the coming months and years, it seems that this project is one title that fans cannot wait to see.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be released on June 2nd, 2023; so still some time to wait.
