Star Wars Crushes Competition At UK Box Office

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the movie that just about everyone is talked about as it is has been smashing record after record since its release on Thursday.

Unsurprisingly, the movie has topped the UK box office - taking a staggering £34.01 million; enjoying the biggest opening days, three-day opening, and four-day opening in UK box office history.

The Force Awakens is the seventh Star Wars film in the series, the first in a decade, and the first time that we have seen filmmaker J.J. Abrams at the helm.

The movie has also set a new opening weekend record in IMAX cinemas as the film took £3.4 million from forty-two screens - surpassing the £2.9 million record set by Spectre earlier this year.

Sisters was the second highest new entry on the chart this week as the Tina Fey and Amy Poehler comedy opened at number two. Th3 movie took £1.2 million as the popular funny women reunited on the big screen.

Pixar's The Good Dinosaur continues to perform and has taken just over £8 million at the UK box office. The movie rounded off the top three this week.

Dilwale was the third new entry inside the top five at number four, while The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 slipped from last week's #1 to round off this week's top five.

Spectre fell out of the top five for the first time as it slipped three places from three to number six. Bajirao Mastani was the fourth new entry inside the top ten this week, as it opened at number seven.

Christmas With The Cooper fell three places to number eight, Bridge of Spies was this week's biggest faller - dropped five spots to number nine.

This time of year would not be complete without It's A Wonderful Life showing on the big screen and this festive classic was in at number ten.
