Stellan Skarsgard

Stellan Skarsgard

Stellan Skarsgard is set to star in 'Cinderella'.

The 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' actor is in talks to join Disney's live-action version of the classic fairytale - which will be directed by Kenneth Branagh - as the King's adviser, the Grand Duke, who may have ulterior motives, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Should Stellan sign up for the movie he will join a stellar line-up made up of the likes of Cate Blanchett - who will portray the Wicked Stepmother, Lady Tremaine - and Helena Bonham Carter, who will take on the role of the Fairy Godmother.

'Downton Abbey' actress Lily James will play the titular character, while her co-star Sophie McShera, and 'The Borgias' actress Holliday Grainger will be the orphaned girl's evil stepsisters, Drizella and Anastasia.

'Game of Thrones' actor Richard Madden will play Prince Charming in the movie, which is due to start filming in London in September and is set for release around the festive period in 2014.

The movie marks Disney's latest fairytale film following the success of 2010's 'Alice in Wonderland', based on Lewis Carroll's book of the same name, and 'Wizard of Oz' prequel 'Oz the Great and Powerful'.
