Tom Hiddleston as Loki

Tom Hiddleston says that he pitched the idea of Thor and Loki fighting side by side.

The actor is set to reprise the role of Loki in Thor: The Dark World; a movie that would see him reunite with Chris Hemsworth.

Hiddleston and Hemsworth have played warring brother Loki and Thor in Thor and Avenger's Assemble, and Hiddleston says he wanted to see a change in their relationship.

So he took his idea to Marvel president Kevin Feige.

Speaking to Total Film he said: "I remember talking with him (Feige) when we were on the 'Avengers' promotional tour. I said, 'OK, you've seen Thor and Loki be antagonistic for two films now. It would be amazing to see them fight side by side.

"I've been the bad guy now twice, so I can't be again, or otherwise I shouldn't be in the film. So we have to find a new role for me to play.'"

Thor: The Dark World is one of the most anticipated films of the autumn as Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Idris Elba are all also reprising their roles.

Christopher Eccleston is the big new addition to the cast list, while Alan Taylor takes over the director's chair.

2013 has been a busy year for Hiddleston as he has also lent his voice to The Pirate Fairy and is set to appear in Muppets Most Wanted.

Only Lovers Left Alive, which sees him team up with Tilda Swinton, will be part of the BFI London Film Festival line-up.

Thor: The Dark World is released 30th October.
