Wendi McLendon-Covey is joining Adam Sandler in 'The Familymoon'.

The 'Bridesmaids' actress - who played outspoken bachelorette party member Rita - has landed a role opposite Hollywood's favourite funnyman and his '50 First Dates' co-star Drew Barrymore in the romantic comedy, TheWrap.com is reporting.

The plot centres around Sandler and Barrymore's disastrous blind date, which lands them at a family resort with their children from previous marriages.

McLendon-Covey will take over from fellow blonde comedienne Chelsea Handler, who was originally expected to play Barrymore's childless best friend in the Warner Bros. film.

Meanwhile, Joel McHale is playing Barrymore's former husband in the comedy, previously entitled 'Blended'.

Mike Karz and Bill Bindley's Gulfstream Pictures is producing with the help of Sandler's Happy Madison company.

Frank Coraci is directing from a script by writers Ivan Menchell, Clare Sera and Rodney Rothman.

McLendon-Covey, 43, has just wrapped 'Think Like a Man Too' and has several films scheduled for release in the next few months, including 'A Friggin' Christmas Miracle', 'Claire's Cambodia', 'Cuban Fury' and 'Single Moms Club'.
