There is a lot of excitement brewing about Reese Witerspoon's central performance in Wild, and it is set to hit the big screen in the new year.

Witherspoon is already being tipped for a possible Oscar nomination for her central role as Cheryl Strayed, in the biopic that is directed by Jean-Marc Vallee.

This is the first film for Vallee since he steered Matthew McConaughey to the Best Actor gong for Dallas Buyers Club, and he could make it two in a row if Witherspoon was to triumph early next year.

The brand new UK poster for the movie has been released by Empire, showing Witherspoon centre stage.

Wild is based on the memoir by Strayed, as she set off on a 1,100 mile solo hike as get over some issues in her personal life, including divorce and the death of her mother. With no experience, she sets off to find herself and heal some wounds.

Wild has so far been met with rave reviews from the critics, and was one of the highlights of the BFI London Film Festival last month.

While Witherspoon is very much the heart and soul of Wild, she is joined on the cast list by Gaby Hoffman, Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, and Thomas Sadoski.

Wild is set to hit the big screen in the UK on 16th January 2015.
