There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of this new Wolverine project being an R-rated film after the huge success of Deadpool earlier this year.

Deadpool has become the most successful R-rated movie of all time - so it comes as no surprise that other comic book movies would follow in its footsteps... and it seems that Wolverine 3 will do just that.

Speaking to Collider about the film, the producer and writer said: "It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie.

"It's violent, it's kind of like a western in its tone. It's just a very cool, different film."

Wolverine 3 will see Hugh Jackman reprise the title role for the first time as he reunites with filmmaker James Mangold; who was at the helm for The Wolverine back in 2013.

Michael Green and David James Kelly have penned the screenplay while Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner will produce, Stan Lee is also on board as an executive producer.

Filming on the movie is already underway with Stephen Merchant, Boyd Holbrook and Richard E. Grant on board.

There have been rumours swirling that Patrick Stewart will be reprising his role as Charles Xavier - but this has not yet been confirmed by the studio. I guess we are just going to have to wait and see.

This will be the third solo Wolverine film and Jackman is set to hang up the claws after completing this movie.

We are going to see Jackman back as Logan in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. He has been teased in the latest trailer but it is still unknown how big a role he is going to play.

Wolverine 3 is set for a 2nd March 2017 release.
