Following the huge success of the first Wonder Woman movie, director Patty Jenkins returns in her role for the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. Now, an online teaser for the film has been released, showcasing some of the action we should expect from the movie when it makes its cinematic debut in June 2020. You can watch the trailer below:

Gal Gadot returns to the titular role, as Wonder Woman faces a pair of new adversaries in Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig), otherwise known as old friend, Barbara Minerva. Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) is also back for another bout of crime-fighting alongside the Amazonian superhero, though no details are yet given on exactly how he makes his return, following the fatal conclusion to the first Wonder Woman flick.

Arguably the most exciting tease from the new trailer however, comes in the form of seeing Diana Prince wearing her Golden Eagle Armour! The original design debuted in Mark Waid's DC Elseworlds story Kingdom Come, which saw Diana come out of retirement alongside fellow Justice League members to face a crisis. Does this mean we're going to see other faces from the League in 1984? Not neccessarily. Do the wings on the costume mean she can fly? We bloody hope so! We'll have to wait for further details before getting too excited...

Directed from a screenplay Jenkins co-wrote with Geoff Johns and David Callaham, Wonder Woman 1984 is clearly taking a huge influence from the era in which it's set, if the teased soundtrack is anything to go by. Plenty of comments across social media had fans half-expecting (or perhaps hoping) Diana herself to breakdance in the middle of the teaser.

Wiig's casting as Minerva, aka Cheetah, is a point of contention for many purists. Some think she's been chosen simply because filmmakers are looking at what has worked for Marvel movies of the past (bringing comedy to action-adventure), and they wanted a famous comic at the top of the bill to ensure success. Others believe that she is the perfect choice for such a role and, if Melissa McCarthy's recent performance in Will You Ever Forgive Me? is anything to go by, actors known for their comedic chops have a lot more to give. So far, from what we've seen in the new teaser, Wiig is a great person to take on this role. It's going to be interesting to see her Cheetah transformation.

Pascal meanwhile, looks utterly unrecognisable from his days as the charming Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. The lengths costume and design have gone to, to send him back to the mid-80s, is some of the best superhero movie work we've seen done to-date.

Warner Bros. are still keeping tight-lipped when it comes to details surrounding the movie, offering just a one-line summary of the events we'll see take place on the big screen: "Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah." Hmm...

Warner Bros. have also dropped a handful of character posters, featuring Diana, Steve, Max Lord and Barbara Minerva. You can check them out below:
