Woody Harrelson has revealed that just one conversation with director Gary Ross made him get on board The Hunger Games.

The actor will be reprising the role of Haymitch Abernathy this autumn with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and he admits that signing up for this franchise was a throw of the dice.

Speaking to Shortlist the actor said: "The director [Gary Ross] called me and he said, 'You've got to do this for me, I don't have a second choice'.

"Just one conversation made me throw the dice. That was it, and now I'm part of this incredible franchise."

"It's the first time I've been part of something that's a hit."

The Hunger Games was one of the biggest movies of 2012 and the second instalment is one of the most anticipated films of the year.

Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will also be reprising their roles, while Francis Lawrence is in the director's chair this time around.

Harrelson is back on the big screen this week as part of the ensemble cast of magic movie Now You See Me, He will also be lending his voice to animation project Free Birds.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released 22nd November.
