Sherlock Holmes is one of the most iconic literary figures of all time and Mr Holmes will see him return to the big screen this summer, as we have never seen him before.

Mr Holmes

Mr Holmes

Mr Holmes is set to explore the older years of the super sleuth as he looks back on his life and the cases he has worked on - as well as thinking about his own mortality.

The great Ian McKellen will take on the title role and will reunite with filmmaker Bill Condon; this is their first film project together since Gods and Monsters.

Mr Holmes is one of the summer movies that I have been looking forward to the most and will be a welcome break from all of the blockbusters that will be coming out way.

There's just a fortnight to go before the film hits the big screen and we have an exciting and exclusive new clip to share with you:

A great cast has been assembled around McKellen as Colin Starkey, Laura Linney, Hattie Moran, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Roger Allam are all on board. We are also going to be introduced to the acting talents of Milo Parker as Roger - this is only the second feature film of his young career.

In 1947, the world famous sleuth has retired to a remote Sussex farmhouse, living in relative anonymity with only his housekeeper Mrs Munro and her young son Roger for company.

Cantankerous, demanding, and frustrated with the mis-representation of him in Watson's best-selling novels, he diverts his attention to an unsolved case. As the mystery deepens, Sherlock tries desperately to recall the events of 30 years ago, that ultimately led to his retirement.

Sherlock Holmes is a character that has fascinated audiences over the years - and one that has been reimagned time and time again on both the big and small screen - I can't wait to see McKellen but his stamp on a very different interpretation.

Mr Holmes is released 19th June.
