Nicholas Hoult in Jack the Giant Slayer

Nicholas Hoult in Jack the Giant Slayer

Nicholas Hoult is set to wow audiences with his first heroic starring-role in Jack The Giant Slayer, released across the UK on March 22nd, and to celebrate we thought we’d take a look at the roles that made him what he is today. This is Nicholas Hoult: Child Star to Teen Heart Throb.

Nicholas made his TV debut in an episode of Casualty way back in 1996, but it wasn’t until 2002 that the world would learn his name when he starred in About A Boy alongside Hugh Grant.

Nicholas tugged on heart-strings as the naive and perpetually positive Marcus, a boy hell-bent on snagging his depressed Mum a boyfriend in the hopes of making her happy.

I don’t think any of us will ever forget Marcus walking down the corridor singing ‘Shake Yo Ass’, catching the attention of love interest Nat Tena, who would later pop up in HBOs Game Of Thrones!

It wasn’t until 2005 that Nicholas re-emerged and started to attract interest in more adult roles, playing Nicolas Cage’s son in The Weather Man.

Though the film divided opinion, it was clear to see Nicholas’ increasing star-quality, reflected in his being cast in E4’s ground-breaking drama, Skins in 2007.

It was playing the narcissistic and Machiavellian Tony that Nicholas truly showcased his acting chops, making one of the most disgusting and hateful characters committed to screen likeable and, to many, loveable.

Transitioning once again from the small to silver screen in 2009, Nicholas took on the roles of Kenny in A Single Man, closely followed by 2010’s Clash Of The Titans, in which he played Eusebios, one of Perseus’ ill-fated gang of heroes trying to take down the Kraken.

Though he may have been turned to stone, there was certainly nothing wooden about his acting!

Hoult continued with the blockbuster theme as he took on the role of Dr Hank McCoy aka Beast in X-Men: First Class - which was directed by Matthew Vaughn.

His star undeniably on the rise, it was 2013’s Warm Bodies that truly transformed the former child-star into a bonafide heart-throb, playing the sexy, yet mono-syllabic R.

Now, it’s time for Nicholas to earn his fantasy wings, which will definitely keep him in good stead as he climbs his way up the beanstalk in the forthcoming Jack the Giant Slayer.

And it will continue to be a busy year for the actor as he is also set to star in Mad Max: Fury Road and reprise the role of Hank McCoy as filming on X-Men: Days of Future Past gets underway - a movie that will reunite him with Bryan Singer.

Jack The Giant Slayer is released 22nd March.
