Gravity

Gravity

November is set to be a terrific month for movies as we are going to be treated to blockbusters, biopics, sci-fi epics and directorial debuts.

We have already had a fantastic autumn of movies - there just seems to have been on terrific movie after another - and that trend looks set to continue as we enter this new month.

So we take a look at some of the film that you CANNOT miss this November; and there really as so many to choose from.

- Philomena - 1st November

The month kicks off in style as Philomena hits the big screen; the real life story of a woman and her fifty year search for the child she was forced to give away.

It is always exciting to see Judi Dench on the big screen, and she really does give a tour de force performance as Philomena Lee.

Dench is already being tipped as a Best Actress Oscar contender as she gives a moving and yet very funny central performance. Steve Coogan also stars as journalist Martin Sixsmith; he has also penned the screenplay.

We have already seen this movie and it really is a wonderful film as director Stephen Frears finds the perfect balance between making the audience laugh and cry.

- Gravity - 7th November

There is no film that has been talked about more this autumn than the magnificent Gravity; it really does deserve all of the praise that has been coming its way.

The movie sees the return of Alfonso Cuarón to the director's chair, while Sandra Bullock teams up with fellow Oscar winner George Clooney.

Gravity follows a medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.

Gravity is just magnificent from start to finish as it is as much about the characters as it is about how fantastic the movie looks.

Bullock delivers a terrific central performance, and don't be surprised to see her and the film featuring heavily on the awards circuit.

- Dom Hemingway - 15th November

Jude Law is set to return to the big screen later this month with his new film Dom Hemingway. The movie sees him team up with director Richard Shepard for the first time; he has also penned the screenplay.

Law takes on the title character who has spent 12 years in prison for keeping his mouth shut is back looking for what he is owed.

Dom Hemingway is already being tipped as one of the performances of Law's career and it is great to see him back and getting his teeth into such an interesting character.

Law is joined on the cast list by Richard E. Grant, Demian Bichir and Emilia Clarke.

- Don Jon - 15th November

Another film that has been surrounded in plenty of chatter is Don Jon as it marks the feature film directorial debut from actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Levitt has directed, written and will star in a film that debuted at the Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of 2013; it has been playing successfully on the festival circuit since then.

A New Jersey guy dedicated to his family, friends, and church, develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love.

The critics are already heaping praise on this debut film from Levitt as he has delivered a film that is as compelling as it is funny. Levitt has an exciting directing career ahead of him.

- The Counsellor - 15th November

I have been a fan of Ridley Scott for many years and he is back this month with his new film The Counsellor.

This is his first directorial outing since the success of Prometheus, and he reunites with actor Michael Fassbender for this new project.

The cast list for this movie is an impressive one as Fassbender is joined by Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt.

The Counsellor tells the story of a lawyer (Fassbender), who finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.

- The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - 21st November

No month is complete without an exciting blockbuster... and they don't come more exciting than The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The movie sees Jennifer Lawrence return to the role of Katniss Everdeen in what is the second of Suzanne Collins' novels to be adapted for the big screen.

Catching Fire sees Katniss and Peeta return to the arena as they have to compete in the Quarter Quell.

Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson are all returning, while Sam Claflin and Jena Malone are some of the new additions as they take on the roles of Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has been one of the most talked about blockbusters of 2013 and looks set to be a box office smash.

Other movies to watch out for this month include Drinking Buddies, The Butler, In Fear, Free Birds and Saving Mr Banks.
