Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness

There are a lot of movies we are looking forward to this summer here at FemaleFirst but there are few that excite us more than Star Trek Into Darkness.

The popular franchise was rebooted for the big screen back in 2009 and saw the story taken right back to the beginning - the movie followed the events of Enterprise's first voyage.

This time around we are seeing the team settling into life with Kirk as their captain... but they face a new threat.

The movie sees J.J. Abrams return to the director's chair in what is his first film since Super 8.

Like all Abrams' movies Star Trek Into Darkness was kept under lock and key until the beginning of the year when images and trailer started to emerge - and the film really does look terrific.

Abrams didn't rush into making a sequel and this looks set to play into the film's hands as they have taken their time to craft the story and develop the characters.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are back penning the scrip while Damon Lindelof has also been brought on board to pen the screenplay.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are back as James T. Kirk and Spock and I can't wait to see this relationship develop further.

Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and John Cho are some of the other actors who will be reprising characters from the first film.

The big addition to the cast list comes in the form of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch as he takes on the role of John Harrison.

There has been a lot of speculation around this character of Harrison as he does not feature in the original series... could he be someone else? We will have to wait and see how this little mystery pans out.

If you haven't seen Cumberbatch in action in the trailer yet then check him out as he looks like he is going to be one menacing villain - I just cannot wait to see him in action.

Star Trek Into Darkness will be the biggest movie film for Cumberbatch to date and it could well set his film career of with a major bang.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

A J.J. Abrams directed movie is always an exciting event and Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be a movie not to miss this summer.
