Taxi Driver

Taxi Driver

'You talking' to me?' has become one of cinema's most famous lines and Travis Bickle one of his most iconic characters.

Taxi Driver hit the big screen back in 1976 as Martin Scorsese reunited with actor Robert De Niro.

If you haven't seen this movie then you really are missing out on a treat as it remains one of the strongest movie projects for both director and actor.

Bickle is one of the most complex and intriguing characters of all time and while he does have his faults De Niro plays him in a way where the audience is always on his side.

It's a haunting and powerful performance from De Niro as Bickle is a man who if filled with anger at the world around him.

The script by Paul Schrader is a brilliant look at alienation and paranoia while director Scorsese creates an air of menace that hangs over the entire picture.

Sure this is not the cheeriest film that you will ever watch but boy this is a masterpiece that stays with you long after the credits role.

What is so interesting is the idea of violence under the guise of heroism by a loner character has been done recently in Drive - but it doesn't quite pack the same dark punch of Taxi Driver.

This character piece will never be equalled or better as it remains a classic of cinema.

Hard to believe that this movie is well over thirty years old and yet it still has a powerful effect on audiences even today.
