Brenton Thwaites

Brenton Thwaites

Every year we see young actors and actresses really make a name for themselves... it looks like 2014 is going to belong to Brenton Thwaites.

Over the next twelve months or so Thwaites has a string of exciting and high profile roles that look set to send his star rocketing.

And all that starts this week as he takes on the role or Prince Phillip in the highly anticipated Maleficent.

Maleficent marks the first big blockbuster role for Thwaites, as director Robert Stromberg put a brand new spin on the tale of Sleeping Beauty.

We all think we know that popular story, but this time around, it will be Maleficent who will take centre stage.

Angelina Jolie will take on Disney's most famous villain, while Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley & Sam Riley will also join Thwaites on the cast list.

2014 is set to be quite an eclectic year for Thwaites in terms of his roles, moving from blockbusters to science fiction to horror.

Oculus has already hit the big screen in the U.S., but we will be treated to it next month.

Oculus will see Thwaites and Karen Gillan play brother & sister, alongside Katee Sackhoff and Rory Cochrane.

The film follows Kaylie Russell (Gillan) as she tries to prove that her brother Tim (Thwaites) is not guilty of murder... instead it was a supernatural force that committed the crime.

The movie has already enjoyed success at the U.S. box office, and is set to be one of the horror films not to miss this summer.

The Giver is a film that is not out until later this year, but it is a film that is already whipping up a flurry of excitement.

The Giver is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Lois Lowry, and sees Phillip Noyce return to the director's chair.

In a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice, a young boy is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the "real" world.

Thwaites is set to take on of young boy Jonas, and star alongside Meryl Street, Jeff Bridges, Alexander Skarsgård, & Katie Holmes.

The Giver is already being tipped as one of the science fiction films of the year, and I can't wait to see Thwaites work alongside Oscar winner Bridges.

Thwaites has also completed work on Son of a Gun with Ewan McGregor and Alicia Vikander & Ride: which will see Helen Hunt, direct, write & star.

The young actor - who hails from Australia - is currently filming Gods of Egypt with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Gerard Butler, and director Alex Proyas.

As you can see, Thwaites has a very busy year ahead of him, with plenty of exciting projects on the horizon.

He really is one of the emerging new acting talents, and is set to be the name on everyone’s lips over the next year to eighteen months.

Maleficent is released 28th May.
