Zack Snyder

Zack Snyder is one of the most visual filmmakers working in Hollywood at the moment, and he is back this week with his new movie Man of Steel.

It it is the first time we have seen Superman on the big screen in seven years as Snyder teams up with writer David S. Goyer and producer Christopher Nolan to reboot the popular franchise.

Snyder kicked off his directing career in commercials before making his debut with Dawn of the Dead in 2004.

The movie was a remake of the George A. Romero film of the same name from 1978 and the screenplay was penned by James Gunn.

The movie went on to gross $102 million and is one of very few zombie movies to break the $100 million barrier.

But it was Snyder's next movie 300 that really saw him grab everyone's attention in 2007.

The movie was based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley and was a fictionalised retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae.

Gerard Butler, Lena Headey, David Wenham, Rodrigo Santoro and Michael Fassbender were all on board - not to mention it was one of the most visually stunning films of the year.

The film was a huge box office it has it grossed in excess of $456 million at the global box office.

300: Rise Of An Empire is set to hit the big screen next year and while Snyder is not in the director's chair he has penned the screenplay and served as producer.

Snyder's next project was another comic book adaptation as he brought Watchmen to the big screen.

The movie was based on the comic book of the same name by Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore and was set in an alternate 1985 at the height of the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.

Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Patrick Wilson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were all on board as a group of vigilante fighters.

Watchmen was a movie that divided the critics and it did struggle at the box office; however it did make back its $130 million budget.

Snyder dabbled with animation for Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole before returning to live action with Sucker Punch in 2011.

But this week he is back as he reboots the Superman franchise with Henry Cavill in the lead role.

Man of Steel is already one of the most anticipated films of the year and is set to be one of the most successful.

Snyder has brought together an terrific cast list as Cavill is joined by Russell Crowe. Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.

Man of Steel has only just hit the big screen today but there is already a sequel in the pipeline. Snyder himself has also been linked to the director's chair of The Justice League film.

If and when the Justice League movie goes ahead is still uncertain but it seems that Snyder is in poll position to helm that project.

Man of Steel is out now.
