Leona Lewis Backs Dairy Farms Campaign

British pop star Leona Lewis has joined a campaign to end industrial dairy farming in the U.K.

The Bleeding Love singer, a committed vegetarian and vocal supporter of animal rights, has called for a ban on the sale of milk from battery-farmed cows in her native country.

She has vowed to use her fame to highlight the campaign by the World Society for the Protection of Animals until legislation governing dairy farms is tightened up.

She says, "I think it is shocking that in a country like Britain - with our good reputation for animal welfare and farming - that we are even talking about intensive dairy farms... We won't stop until we know factory milk from battery cows will never be allowed in Britain."

Susan Boyle Gives Up Candy For Charity

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle is giving up candy for 40 days to raise money for charity.

The I Dreamed A Dream hitmaker is taking part in the Christian tradition of Lent, which sees followers cut out a favorite food or activity in the run-up to Easter.

And Boyle will be putting her sacrifice to good use by collecting the savings she makes on chocolate and donating the money to the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund's (Sciaf) Wee Box, Big Change project.

Charity spokesman Val Morgan says, "Susan has known about Sciaf's work helping people out of poverty overseas since she was a young girl... This year Susan will be supporting the campaign by giving up sweets and chocolate."
