“Get ready to Rumble!” – The Independent, March 2007After the run-away success of debut single ‘alarm clock’ - Virgin, XFM, 6 Music daytime playlists and Radio 1 drive-time single of the week, MTV2 playlists and inclusion in the top 10 in the BBC’s tips for 2007 poll http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6169551.stm - The Rumble Strips return with ‘Motorcycle’ – a track destined to be the indie anthem of 2007.It’s been an eventful couple of months for the band, culminating in a storming Sxsw festival where Charlie cemented his status as a bona fida rock ‘n’ roll star getting himself arrested for being drunk and disorderly (and jumping bail!).Motorcycle is the sound of wide-eyed yearning, life-affirming melodies all awash with the optimism of youth. Heralded in by a brass intro with a respectful nod towards Otis Redding, ‘Motorcycle’ recalls the kind of anthemic, timeless pop of David Bowie in his pomp. This is a song with an enormous heart written by an enigmatic day-dreamer (“with a glint in my eye / I’ll show you this little boy could really fly”). The song build and builds, rushing all the time towards an absolutely grand finale, where the song climaxes with Charlie hitting that note – this is as close to pop perfection as you are going to get.The Rumble Strips are a truly special group: Pure, sad and romantic - writing huge, pop songs tapped directly from the heart – whilst looking and sounding like no one else. Theirs are songs that strike a chord with the masses, whilst remaining enigmatic and standing alone from the crowd. The band embark on a mammoth spring tour playing with good friends The Maccabees and The Sunshine Underground before headlining the prestigious NME New BandThe Rumble Strips
