Ashley, Jamaal, Myles and Mustafa are the four piece that make up Rak-su. They’ve just released their new single, I Want You To Freak, which they describe as “old school RnB melodies meet Rak-Su energy and fun.”

Since winning The X Factor in 2017 they have been living their best lives, touring, travelling and all the rest!

“It’s been absolutely amazing! A lot of songwriting, two tours (X Factor & Little Mix), we’ve been abroad together for the first time... we’re just trying to improve ourselves as much as possible” they say.

Going from being four regular Watford lads to a national favourite boyband is a dramatic lifestyle change, but what’s been the boys’ biggest ‘pinch-me’ moment?

“It had to be out on stage with Little Mix performing in front of 30,000 people with them all singing Dimelo back to us... the energy was ridiculous!”

The video for I want you to freak was shot in Antigua, where the boys got a real taste for the Island, and Jamaal got to use his Patois. The lads said the experience shooting the video in the Caribbean was “fun, hectic and hot…”

“It was a beautiful place to shoot and it all went really well.

“We started at 5am and there was a lot of sweat doing the choreography in the Caribbean sun but it was amazing. The locals were lovely and we got a real taste for the island as well!

“It was nice hearing Jam spend the time speaking more in Patois being back in the Caribbean too!”

The boys have been working on their new album with huge writing talent, such as Grammy Award winning Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor. They told us that working on the album has been fun, and they’ve learned a lot from the best in the industry.

“We’ve written around 80 songs so having to whittle them down for the album was super hard as they’re all our ideas and babies.

“Working with some of the most talented producers out there has been great and we’ve managed to form some real friendships as well as making good music! As we spent so long writing alone beforehand it took some time to adjust to being in sessions with other people but we’ve got there!”

There’s a lot for the band to be excited about now, but they’re already looking to the future and seizing every opportunity that comes their way.

“We want to be everywhere and do everything!! Album by the end of this year, touring early next year... more music videos, RakTV (our digital platform on YouTube) and basically making the most of this great opportunity!”
