Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin has honoured her late father by jetting to Georgia to accept a prestigious award on his behalf.

The soul star flew to Atlanta for the 20th Annual Trumpet Awards Race Relations Symposium on Wednesday (04Dec12), where her dad, Rev. C.L. Franklin, was recognised for his civil rights work and she'll pick up his posthumous accolade at the event's annual prizegiving ceremony on Saturday (07Jan12).

Clarence LaVaughn Franklin was a Baptist minister who worked tirelessly to end discriminatory practices against black United Auto Workers members in Detroit, Michigan.

He died in 1984 after spending five years in a coma as a result of a gunshot wound he suffered during an attempted robbery on his home.

In total, 26 persons were selected for their milestone achievements by bosses of The Trumpet Awards Foundation, among them model Tyrese Gibson and hitmakers Earth, Wind, & Fire.
