As my first ever DJ gig,i.e. not a band gig where I’d mosh mindlessly like a headless chicken on a trampoline in between frequent bouts of screaming, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from French Christian DJ gods of the bass Justice. As it turned out, the mindlesss mosh and high frequency yells were still in attendance. Bristol had more than proved itself to be home of Skins, represented by the hordes of neon clad teenagers running on something considerably more substantial than adrenaline, and the Bristol Academy had a growing buzz surrounding the imminent arrival of the dance music gurus onstage. However, this mounting momentum was slightly dispelled by support act Fancy: clad in red leggings so tight his voice hit higher than the ASBO sound emitters, the French lead singer more than gave Mika a run for his money as he screeched about the stage, imploring the increasingly restless crowd to react and repeatedly screaming 'ELLO BREEESTOL!'Despite a hyped performance of The Pointer Sister’s 'I’m So Excited', the crowd were more than in the mood to switch crazed yelps for sultry and relentless beats. And that Justice delivered. The thundering opening of Genesis roused the crowd into a headbanging, finger pointing uproar, only marred by the power cut a few minutes into the set. However nothing could break the sheer exuberance of the set, as Justice ducked and bobbed their heads above their trademark luminous cross, racing through tracks from their album of the same name. A slightly predictable highlight was the indie club staple D.A.N.C.E., amped to the max with a remix lasting at least as twice as long as the original. The night was a blur of bass and beats, faultless DJing from the Frenchies and more hands in the air than on a ride on the Big One.
