Manic Street Preachers praised for their donation to the Welsh miner fund

The Manic Street Preachers have been praised for making a 'substantial donation' to a fund for the grieving families of the four men who lost their lives in a welsh mining tragedy.

The Swansea Valley Miners Appeal Fund was set up to help the relatives of the miners who were killed after becoming trapped in the Gleision Colliery near Pontardawe last week

The rockers, who come from Blackwood, Wales,, were moved by the disaster and pledged a 'substantial donation', according to Welsh MP Peter Hain, who helped set up the appeal.

Other high-profile patrons to donate to the fund, which currently stands at more than£100,000, include British royal Charles, Prince of Wales and Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones.
