Marie Osmond is leading a heart health campaign in honour of her late mother - whose dying wish was for her daughter to lose weight and improve her health.

Osmond has signed up to become the spokeswoman for the Go Red for Women drive, which encourages the females to take up healthy habits to help wipe out heart disease and strokes.

The 50-year-old singer's mother Olive passed away in 2004 from complications after a stroke, and Osmond admits she has a deeply personal reason for joining the health campaign - she wants to pass on her mother's last request which encouraged her to change her diet and take up exercise.

She tells FemaleFirst; "My mother on her death bed, she said, 'Marie, don't do what I did. Take care of yourself.' "You can do it for your loved ones, but you really need to do it for yourself. To me the whole campaign is about loving yourself."
