The singer is determined to boost youth turnout numbers when Canada goes to the polls on 2 May (11) to elect a new prime minister and she has started campaigning on her Twitter.com page to encourage more youngsters into the voting booths.

Furtado later wrote to Lavigne, "Are you going to vote in our Canadian federal election on May 2nd? It's easy to fill out an away ballot if u r (sic) on tour."

She writes on her own page, "Hey, Canada - ages 18-35... Who's voting in the federal election? I am, as usual. It's on May 2nd, 2011. It's really easy to register... If youth continue 2 (sic) be no-shows at polls, our concerns will continue 2 be on mute; doesn't matter who u vote for."
