Will.I.Am

The Boom Boom Pow hitmaker met the politician during the 2008 election campaign, and was vocal in his backing for the Democrat.

Since he swept into power two years ago, Obama has struggled to deal with growing unemployment in the U.S. as a result of the global economic downturn, and swathes of voters are switching their support to his opponents.

Will.I.Am has revealed his political pal is finding it tough to withstand the growing pressure, but he's urged Americans to back their president - insisting the financial meltdown is "worse" than the terror attacks of 9/11.

He tells the Sunday Times Magazine, "I saw him three months ago. Went to visit him at the White House. (He was) stressed. It's sad, when I think about it, that people don't realise he's not the one that caused this. He was the one who said: 'Let me take a crack at fixing this.'

"You would think that, if the country was in a shambles, the Democrats and the Republicans would pull together. Immature, isn't it? There are no jobs in America and it's getting worse. Bad as 9/11 was, this is worse because the terror isn't about airplanes through buildings, the terror is people not being able to unite, the Divided States of America...

"We still have to go to the airport and take our clothes off and shoes off, everything in the name of homeland security,  but our homeland is a shambles. And the only person who's brave enough to take that job... It's sad. It's a weird time in America."
